Insulation
At FBM we stock and supply a range of insulation products for both commercial and residential applications. Energy efficient building and wall insulation products come in a wide-variety of types and are manufactured by several different vendors. From standard fiberglass insulation and rigid foam panel products to mineral wools and spray applied foam insulation, FBM has the quality insulation products to meet the needs and requirements of today’s builder.
Types of insulation include:
Fiberglass Insulation
Fiberglass insulation is a product used in the construction of both residential and commercial structures. Fiberglass batts and/or rolls (long blankets) are typically installed within walls, floors and ceilings to regulate indoor air temperatures by inhibiting the loss of hot or cold air to the outside. Fiberglass insulation is also available as a bagged, loose fill material which is designed to be blown into wall cavities, attics and other hard to reach areas.
Insulation products are measured by their R-value or the capacity of the material to resist heat flow. The higher the insulations R-value the greater capacity for the material to insulate.
Foam Board or Rigid Foam Panel Insulation
Foam Board or Rigid Foam Panel Insulation is used in a range of commercial and residential construction applications but it is particularly well suited for moisture prone areas. Much like drywall, rigid foam board is supplied in easy to ship and handle boards or panels including 4’ x 8’ sheets. This type of insulation also has the added benefit of providing added structural strength to the walls it is applied to. Rigid panel insulation is also available in a wide variety of thicknesses and R-values to meet the needs of different building requirements.
There are three different types of foam board insulation:
- Molded expanded polystyrene (MEPS)
- Extruded expanded polystyrene (XEPS)
- Polyisocyanurate (polyiso) and polyurethane
Mineral Wool Insulation
Mineral Wool Insulation is used just like fiberglass insulation however it is not made with fiberglass but with recycled steel and melted basalt stone which are both turned into a fibrous material perfect for building insulation applications. Mineral wool is available rolls and boards however it is a much more ridged material which holds its shape better and fits into different wall cavities more precisely. Since it is a higher density material, mineral wool has an R-value advantage when compared to fiberglass. When it comes to water resistance, mineral wool holds its shape and does not absorb water like fiberglass insulation.
Spray Foam Insulation
Spray Foam Insulation is a superior product for reducing and virtually eliminating air loss from within a structure. Since this type of insulation is spray applied as a foamy liquid, when it sets up into a hardened material, it can effectively seal off wall and ceiling areas completely. With spray foam insulation, having a professional installer with solid application experience and the right product knowledge is key.
